Special lobster mini season this year is Wednesday July 29 and Thursday, July 30. Thousands of snorkelers and scuba divers will descend upon the Florida Keys in a two day hunt for this tasty crustacean. The season opens at 12:01 AM on Wednesday for those who wish to use the bully net from their boat in the very shallow waters. At sunrise snorkelers and scuba divers can get in the water to start the hunt. Lobsters can often be found in very shallow waters, often less than five feet deep. If you can already snorkel and dive under a few feet, join Easy Adventures for an exciting commando type operation. Book now for this very exciting adventure.
The Florida Spiny Lobster has no claws but is covered with many short spines all over its body. They like to hide under structures: rocks, coral, old boats, blocks and other bottom debris. Always vigilent, lobsters face outward and use their long antennae to fend off intruders. The captain can teach you how to use a tickle stick and net so you won't have to reach your hands under any rocks for these spiny creatures.
Just to let you know that here in the Keys some lobsters get very big. Here is Captain Brian attempting to net one that decided to go for a walk along US Highway One.
