call to reserve a boat charter

On February 26, Captain Anne was involved in the rescue of a sea turtle and a frigate bird.

When returning from the ocean via a popular channel, Captain Anne spotted a huge and unusual form on the shallow sand bar to the right of the channel. Turning the boat around and putting the bow onto the shallow sand bar, her guests jumped out and verified that it was indeed a sea turtle and that it was still alive! Anne phoned the Florida Fish & Wildlife who notified the Turtle Hospital in Marathon. They sent two men to World Wide Sportsman. Captain Anne took them to the turtle and they successfully retrieved the 210 pound female loggerhead sea turtle. See the story and photo at http://www.turtlehospital.org/blog/.

On the very same day, Captain Anne was taking her guests to a bird rookery at sunset and spotted a male frigate bird sitting on a mangrove branch low to the water. Next to him was his loyal mate. Frigate birds normally sit high in the tops of the mangrove trees. Captain Anne eased the boat over to him and picked him out of the water. Her charter guest Mike Nottage of Massachusetts offered to hold Frig as he came to be called while Anne drove the boat in. After a week at the local Wild Bird Center, Frig was feeling much better. Captain Anne made sure that he was released back at the bird rookery so he could be reunited with his mate. Tonya of the Wild Bird Center who was his rehabber is shown releasing Frig.
